Top 25 Golden State Warriors in franchise history
18. Jason Richardson
For many Warriors fans, Jason Richardson is a lot higher than 19. And I wouldn’t blame you if you think this is way too low. That’s how great Richardson was. He was the best thing the Warriors had when they were at their lowest. J-Rich made tuning into Warriors games worth it.
He averaged 18.3 points per game as a Warrior and had two seasons averaging over 20 points. Until the Splash Brothers came around, Richardson was the Warriors’ all-time leader in made three-pointers. He wasn’t nearly as efficient as they are, but he could knock down the long ball.
He could attack from outside, but his speciality was inside. Richardson is one of the greatest dunkers of all-time. He joined Michael Jordan as the only two players to win consecutive Slam Dunk Contests (Nate Robinson and Zach Lavine have since done so as well). His performances will always be remembered.
Richardson developed a special connection with the fans. During an era of Warriors basketball where everyone gave up on the team and the fans, he played hard every night. After failing to make the playoffs again after the 2005-06 season, he took out an ad in the newspaper apologizing to fans. Then he helped lead Golden State during the incredible “We Believe” season.
He played six seasons with the team and he was fantastic in each of them. J-Rich was one of the most exciting players to suit up for the Warriors. And he’s earned himself a special place in Golden State fans’ hearts (so much so that the team honored his retirement with a ceremony last year).
