Stephen Curry, the two-time Most Valuable Player of the NBA, is not better than 19 year old UCLA guard Lonzo Ball, according to Ball’s dad.

Lonzo Ball, the UCLA guard, is going to be a top pick in next year’s NBA Draft. He’ll land anywhere in the top three because he is a very talented player. He has all the tools to be a solid NBA player.

Ball is 6’6 and running the 24-3 Bruins’ offense. He’s averaging 15.4 points, 7.6 assists, and 6.1 rebounds per game. He’s shooting 54.9 percent from the field and 43.2 percent from beyond the arc.

He’s drawn comparisons to Jason Kidd, one of the greatest point guards in NBA history. While it’s generally premature to compare a 19 year old kid to one of the best ever, Ball’s game seems like it could be even better. He is a better shooter and he’s slightly bigger.

There’s another name floating around alongside Ball’s: Stephen Curry. The UCLA star and his brothers have become known for their shooting, especially LaMelo’s and his half court shots. It’s their dad, LaVar Ball, who is really trying to push that comparison.

However, he’s not just settling for a simple comparison. Recently, he told TMZ that his son would be better than the two-time MVP. Now, he’s doubling down and taking it a step further.

The patriarch of the Ball basketball machine didn’t just say that Lonzo would be better than the Golden State point guard in the future, he said he is right now. “He better than Steph Curry to me. Here, put Steph Curry on UCLA’s team right now and put my boy on Golden State and watch what happens.” He even added they should play one-on-one.

To be fair, LaVar Ball isn’t crazy in saying that the Warriors would be great with his son instead of Curry. It’s also important to note that if you swap Steph Curry out with me, a team with Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green would also still be good.

A father hyping his son up isn’t anything new. Ball’s approach is interesting, adding unnecessary pressure to his son’s journey.
