Golden State Warriors power forward Draymond Green roasted the Los Angeles Clippers’ retiring forward Paul Pierce about his lack of adoration from fans.

It doesn’t matter who you are, Draymond Green is not afraid of you. He’ll get into anyone that gets in his way. While LeBron James is his most notable adversary, Paul Pierce is quickly climbing the list.

More from Blue Man Hoop

Pierce, 39, has spent a lot of time talking about Golden State over the last year. As a member of the Los Angeles Clippers, that’s all he’s been able to do against the Warriors. He hasn’t actually stepped onto the floor against them this year.

The former Boston Celtic is in his last NBA season. He announced his retirement earlier this year and has decided to hang it up after 18 years. He’s had an impressive career, for sure, but it’s just not on par with other recently retired stars.

Outside of his return to the TD Garden for the last time, Pierce isn’t getting a lot of love from fans. He’s not a retiring star, he’s an afterthought. The Warriors’ Green made sure to let the veteran forward know that.

The microphones picked up Green yelling at Pierce, who was sitting on the bench, about “chasing that farewell tour.” He mocked him by telling the Clipper that “they don’t love you like it.” Then, he topped it off with the most hilarious cherry on top by telling him that wasn’t Kobe Bryant.

Bryant, famously, announced his retirement then went on a magnificent farewell tour in which every franchise that he played honored him. He was showered with gifts and adoration from fans and former opponents turned fans. It was a party every night in every arena for the Lakers great.

That roasting works in three different ways. First, guys like Bryant, Tim Duncan, and even Kevin Garnett all played in their last season. Pierce, averaging just under 12 minutes per game, takes a lot of DNPs these days. He’s just collecting checks at this point.

Secondly, Bryant is Green’s friend. Their relationship is documented and they both have vested interests in each other. For Green, the Mamba is a respected basketball icon that can pass off knowledge and bring about business opportunities. For Bryant, the Warriors stand as the last line of defense, preserving his legacy from LeBron James.

Lastly, Bryant defeated Pierce in the NBA Finals. The Los Angeles legend scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds in the fourth quarter in Game 7 to steal a championship away from Pierce’s Celtics, who held a 3-2 series lead. Bryant led all scorers that game while Pierce shot just 33 percent in the loss.

It’s not known what prompted Green’s brutal honesty, but it seems reasonable to assume Pierce did some talking to. Once you get into a war of words with Green, you’re not going to leave in one piece.

No word on if Pierce called for a wheelchair after.
