The Golden State Warriors can’t waste time and worry about how the Oklahoma City Thunder are going to react to every Kevin Durant return.

At this point, the story of Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant returning to Oklahoma City is far in the past. However, every time these two teams meet at the Chesapeake Energy Arena, it’s going to end up being the story. That should be expected. What shouldn’t be expected is the Golden State Warriors being angry over the way he gets treated upon his return.

As we all know during Durant’s last return, fans were dressed as cupcakes, boos were had and so on and so forth. It was funny, it was expected and the players for Golden State had fun with it after the game and the win.

That’s why a report from ESPN’s Chris Haynes on Sunday night, is a bit confusing here. Haynes reported that the organization was “furious” with the way they perceived the Thunder organization doing nothing about making the return a tad bit easier than what ended up happening. The lack of acknowledgement for everything Durant did for Oklahoma City apparently has made some upset.

Of course, the Warriors are looking out for their own and don’t want anything out of the ordinary to happen. At the same time, it’s probably not doing them anything good to get furious over something like this. There will come a time when the team will finally recognize him but right now it’s too soon.

When a star player leaves a team, that city is going to be upset. The cupcakes and boos were to be expected. While there are the bad fans that go overboard, they are the exception and certainly don’t speak for the majority. Like the organization, there will come a time when they recognize him as well for what he did to put the organization on the map.

The Warriors’ players went it about the right way and turned the joke around into something they could have fun with after the win. Worrying about how the Thunder handle Durant being in town quite frankly isn’t something they should concern themselves with.

They have an exceptional security staff and the team is there for their superstar forward. Durant won’t be on the floor when they play the Thunder on Monday night, but he’s still going to end up being the story.

The story right now is that Golden State has started to find their groove again and beating the Thunder again would go a long way toward establishing that. That’s where the focus needs to be and not necessarily about whether or not the Thunder’s management is doing enough to thank their former superstar forward.
