It’s just been one piece of good news after the other for the Golden State Warriors. On Wednesday night, the Warriors held off the Phoenix Suns after a strong start and were able to lock up the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. It’s the third straight year they will start on top.
Today, the Warriors got even better news. As has been expected, Kevin Durant was officially cleared to return. The Warriors officially announced that he is returning to team activities and should be in the lineup when they take on the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday night.
If he does play on Saturday, it will be interesting to see how many minutes he is given. They’ll likely ease his way back into things and wait until he is comfortable with a heavier workload. Adding his offensive production should be huge for both Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. The duo has been fantastic lately but having that third scoring option again should make things easier.
This is certainly the best possible outcome for Golden State. When he suffered the MCL sprain against the Washington Wizards at the end of February, it certainly didn’t look good for him. Fortunately, it has ended up working out in the team’s favor and they have found their groove while on 13-game winning streak.

Now they will get him some games before the regular season is over to shake off the rest so that he will be prepared for the playoffs. The first round should also give him more reps to get right and be ready for the bigger obstacles ahead. That of course is assuming that Golden State takes care of business like they should.
