The Golden State Warriors cruised past the Los Angeles Lakers to pick up their 67th win in the regular season finale on Wednesday night.

Alas, the mundane part of the Golden State Warriors’ season has officially come to an end. On Wednesday night, the team picked up their 67th win of the season and defeated the Los Angeles Lakers at home, 109-94. This game wasn’t really that close or much of a game.

The important story here is that Golden State has finished with 67 wins for the second time in three seasons and has won greater or equal to that amount in three straight years. It should come as no surprise that the last time the Warriors won 67 games, they ended up winning the NBA Finals.

The Warriors are playing their best basketball of the season and they should be the favorites to win the NBA Championship. With the uncertainty in the Eastern Conference, there could very well be a new NBA Finals matchup this season.

Golden State can’t assume they’re going to just make it there either. Someone is going to give them a fight in the playoffs. Last year, it felt like the semifinals all the way to the collapse in the NBA Finals were a dogfight the entire way.

Part of that was due to Stephen Curry’s knee injury. However, when a team like Golden State stays at the top and plays with the passion that they do, their opponents are going to aim to give them their best.

The key teams to watch in that regard are Utah, Los Angeles, Houston, San Antonio and if they get that far, Oklahoma City. Portland should be a nice little test as well in the first round but the Warriors didn’t seem to struggle as much against them in the regular season with a healthy Curry.

So here we are, the regular season is over and the real season is just beginning. Golden State has a lot to play for here and their legacy will certainly continue to be defined but what happens during this postseason.
