From the beginning, the Warriors had the mindset of putting this game away early and getting rest while the Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Clippers beat themselves up in a grueling series.
The Warriors scored 45 points in the first quarter and tied an NBA record in the process. From the very beginning, the vibe was that Golden State was going to make sure to make a mark in that first quarter to make it nearly impossible for the Trail Blazers to come back from.
They also made sure to take away one of the big two weapons in Portland. C.J. McCollum struggled massively in 31 minutes of play and went just 2-12 from the field. In the elimination game, he finished with just six points. Damian Lillard’s 34 weren’t enough on this night.
That’s the narrative of this game really. It was over by the end of the first and was a blowout every step of the way. Golden State looked the part of a championship team as they punched their ticket officially to the very next round.
Stephen Curry had a huge night shooting the floor and the Moda Center has been very kind to his shooting over the years. He led all scorers with 37 points and it was indicative of the type of night Golden State had from beyond the arc.

The team finished a crazy 17-29 from deep and at a clip where no one was going to beat them on this night. Kevin Durant even returned to the lineup after missing the previous two games as well. In his return from the floor, Durant had just 10 points in 20 minutes.
Now, Golden State gets to rest as they continue to adjust to life without Coach Kerr in the interim. Getting Shaun Livingston and Matt Barnes healthy will be a must as well. They will be needed depth as the grind that is the playoffs continues. For now though, it’s time to kick back and relax.
