The Golden State Warriors’ interim head coach Mike Brown spoke to the media and talked about the shocking ESPN firings today.

The sports world woke up to some horrible news this morning. ESPN decided to lay off over one hundred employees. They let go some of their best and brightest analysts, writers, and experts.

It was a weird day for all of us, reading the tweets from our favorite ESPN personalities across all sports as they announced the bad news. Of course, that’s the selfish approach. Real people lost their jobs and that part definitely sucks.

One of the most high-profile victims of ESPN’s inexplicable purge was Ethan Sherwood Strauss. If you’re a Golden State Warriors fan, you definitely know who Strauss is, even if you lived under a rock. That’s how great he is at what he does.

Strauss has given us some incredible stories. Of course, he was one of the first to predict that the Warriors would win the championship in the 2014-15 season. Then he wrote the incredible story of how Stephen Curry went to Under Armour after a botched Nike pitch.

The Warriors’ interim head coach Mike Brown spoke to the media at the team’s practice facility.  He started off his media availability by giving Strauss and all the other former ESPN employees a shout out. He added some perspective to the craziness of the situation.

"Before we get started today, I heard today that Ethan lost his job and a lot of people at ESPN obviously got laid off. This is obviously an exciting time, not only for us as an organization, but us as a city and there’s a lot of good vibes going on, but that’s the reality of the world today. So we’re thinking of him and everybody else that goes through that, not only in sports, but in everyday life. Ethan, we’re thinking about you, if you’re out there."

Brown has not had Steve Kerr’s success as a head coach. But there’s a reason why Kerr picked him to join his staff. Outside of his ability to step into the head coaching role, he is also a high character guy.

The Warriors’ organization really values good people. That starts at the top and is important at every single level. Brown recognizing the tough situation that journalists are going through is noteworthy.
