Put the ball in Steph Curry’s hands
The Golden State Warriors need their best player to be magic. Stephen Curry is the best shooter in league history. He’s also a different type of player than Kyle Korver.
At times, Curry just runs around screens. He plays off ball. This leads to teams grabbing, bumping, and wearing him down as he runs across the lane.
Curry is one of the most lethal offensive forces in the history of the game. Defenses need to pick him up when he crosses half court. He does the most damage when he has the ball in his hand.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are better than every other team at being physical with Curry as he moves around the court. They don’t get called for fouls when they send him flying out of bounds. The Warriors can fix that by putting him on the ball.
He played much better in their MLK Day matchup because he handled the rock more. He can use screens and stretch the Cavs’ lackluster defense. The Warriors are better when he’s leading the charge.
It’s important that Curry stays involved. The Warriors can’t sacrifice their best player’s production for the sake of running an offense that hurts them. They’re at their best when he’s stretching out defenses, breaking them down with the dribble, and finishing or finding teammates. He can’t do that if he doesn’t have the ball in his hands.
It seems like it should be a no brainer to put the ball in his hands, but Steve Kerr and the Warriors forget just how special Curry can be as the focal point. He’s having an incredible postseason because he’s been aggressive and that needs to happen in the Finals, especially after last year’s disappointment.
