It feels like it’s been months since we’ve watched a basketball game. Not the reply from previous years or highlights on YouTube and social, but an actual real life basketball game. We have one tonight.

The Golden State Warriors have swept their way into the NBA Finals. They dispatched each team in four games. They ended their destruction of the Western Conference with a short series against the San Antonio Spurs.

More from Blue Man Hoop

Though the Warriors ended up sweeping Gregg Popovich’s team, they weren’t always dominant. The Spurs got off to a fast start in Game 1, going up by over 20 points. Kawhi Leonard’s squad punched Golden State in the mouth.

Leonard would eventually go down with ankle injury. The Warriors would make their comeback and steal Game 1 back from the Spurs. They then rattled off three more games in a row with relative ease.

The Warriors are more talented than the Cleveland Cavaliers. They have homecourt advantage over the Cleveland Cavaliers. They are also very vulnerable in Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The long wait between games could take the Warriors out of rhythm. They were flat against the Spurs and, with more than a week off, they could be step slow again in this round. That kind of time of can be disruptive.

Golden State should be mentally locked in. It’s the NBA Finals against the team that stunned them last season. They’ve been ready for this since Game 7 ended last June.

They’ll be energized, but potentially too energized. It’s been a minute since they’ve played the game and no matter amount of practice can prepare you for the intensity and speed of the game. Especially when your next opponent is LeBron James.

The Warriors have to stay calm, but active. They need to be poised, but fast. The long wait did them no favors, but that’s no excuse.

If they fall down big like they did against the Spurs, they can start preparing for Game 2. They wouldn’t have a shot at making another comeback like that. It’s important that they stay even or build a lead early.

If they can do that, then the Golden State Warriors can take a 1-0 lead in the series. Make no mistake, they may not be any more vulnerable than they are right now and James and the Cavs surely know that.
