The Warriors now hold another 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The series shifts back to Oakland. Golden State has yet to play a close game against Cleveland in the friendly confines of Oracle Arena.
Still, despite having a more talented roster and home court advantage, there’s some tension. While blowing 3-1 leads is the exception and not the rule, it still happened not too long ago. And while this series would require the Cavs to win four games in a row, their Game 3 performance can do just that if replicated three more times.
For the next two and a half days, the Internet will just be 3-1 jokes. After a whole year of them, they had stopped, momentarily, after Kevin Durant knocked down his game-winning three over LeBron James. Following a masterful Cleveland performance, the 3-1 trolls have been given life and have returned from their hiding places.
A sweep would have been nice. Completing a historic 16-0 would have been an amazing way to bounce back after last year’s heartbreaking finish. If they had closed out their perfect postseason, it would have been hard to deny the fact that they were the greatest team of all-time.
Furthermore, sweeping the Cavs would have felt good. After Cleveland stole the championship that was supposed to be theirs, to come back and celebrate on their court after embarrassing them four games in a row would have been perfect. Alas, they couldn’t get it done.
So for a few more days, the Cavaliers will remain the defending champions of the NBA. They will also be in sort of familiar territory down 3-1. While it’s not the same situation as last year, they are probably more comfortable than most would be.
While a sweep would have been the best-case scenario, having a 3-1 lead is a close second. The Warriors needed this. After a year of jokes from everyone, it’s time for them to get rid of them.
It will be a last hurrah of sorts for those jokes. Let them all out so if and when the Warriors close this series out, they disappear behind the power of Golden State’s greatness. In way, it’s great that this happened.

Many are starting to believe that 3-1 leads are blown all the time. They don’t and the Warriors need to destroy that notion. More importantly, they need to do it for themselves.
The Warriors are up 3-1 in the NBA Finals. Only one team has ever blown that type of lead in the NBA Finals. Thankfully, it was not Kevin Durant’s Warriors that did that.
