Adversity is fun

Winning basketball games isn’t supposed to be easy. Winning in the playoffs isn’t supposed to be easy. Winning the NBA Finals isn’t supposed to be easy.

A common complaint over the last year or so is that the NBA is too predictable. Everyone knew that the Golden State Warriors were going to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers in the final round. The addition of Kevin Durant made it a guarantee that the Warriors would be unstoppable.

As a Warriors fan, last year’s Finals were awful. No one wants their season to come to an end like that. With everything that the Warriors were trying to do, to have Kyrie Irving knock down a stepback three over the league’s first unanimous MVP was heartbreaking.

But the fact that the series went seven games is exciting. High-level basketball from some of the best to ever step onto a court is really fun. Pressure and intensity is what makes up playoff basketball.

So having some adversity is fun. Of course, no one wants too much of it. But some is all right.

Watching LeBron James and Kevin Durant go head-to-head is amazing. We have a chance to watch the two best ball handlers in the history of the game do what they do best. We get to watch some top-notch shooting from high-powered offenses.

As much as we want results, the process can be just as satisfying. Great competition is entertaining. By winning, it’s possible the Cleveland Cavaliers just poked a sleeping bear.

By being pushed, the Warriors might unleash an onslaught like we’ve never seen before. Individually and collectively, Golden State excel with their backs against the wall. Not that there is a little more pressure on them, they can turn it up a notch.

The adversity can be a fun part of the process. The Cavaliers are here to play. Now it’s up to the Warriors to put them away.
