Cupcakes

Kevin Durant’s decision to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder and join the Golden State Warriors will probably go down as the most controversial move in league history. It shifted competitive balance, eliminating the Thunder as a contender and propelling the Warriors to unprecedented heights. Durant was grilled for it.

Thunder fans were, understandably, hurt by it. Their franchise player turned seemed to turn his back on them and join the enemy. They were angry.

In the immediate aftermath of Durant’s decision, Russell Westbrook posted an Instagram picture of cupcakes. Disguised as an Independence Day post, Westbrook was taking a shot at Durant. The two stars, reportedly, would call players they deemed to be soft “cupcakes.”

So, when Durant returned to OKC for the first time, the cupcakes movement was in full effect. Fans brought signs and dressed up as delicious baked goods. It was a big deal.

So, at the Warriors’ championship parade, it’d be great if Durant ate a cupcake or two. Golden State embraced the joke as Stephen Curry and Draymond Green both traded with Thunder fans for their cupcake t-shirts. They knew exactly what they were doing after the Dubs blew out Durant’s former team.

Any party should have some kind of sweet snack. If the Warriors want to do it right, they should get some cupcakes. And there’s no risk of hurting anyone’s feelings because Westbrook will probably be watching the Sister Act sequel.
