The 2017 NBA Draft is almost here. How many picks will the Golden State Warriors have in this year’s upcoming draft class?

Outside of Kevin Durant, the strength of the Golden State Warriors has been built through the NBA Draft. Bob Myers has done a tremendous job of elevating himself as one of the best executives in the history of the game through his impeccable drafting ability. Adding the likes of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson among others.

While the Warriors pick at the end of the first round now every year and they aren’t in position for the prime picks, they have still done a tremendous job of finding value. Take for instance the big minutes that Patrick McCaw played in the fourth quarter of Game 5 of the NBA Finals.

How many teams that play in the NBA Finals have the trust in a rookie second-round pick to step up and make contributions? Needless to say, McCaw had some big moments that helped keep the Warriors out in front of the Cavaliers.

In the 2017 NBA Draft, which is being boasted for it’s talent, the Warriors are going to have to sit this draft out. Unless the team can find a way back in, the Warriors will have no draft picks this year. Their first-round pick belongs to the Utah Jazz, which is a result of the deal that helped bring Andre Iguodala to the bay back in 2013.

Their second-round pick has bounced around in plenty of deals, but that is also gone as well as a result of that same trade. The Warriors will gladly trade that late first and second for a guy that helped play a part in two NBA Championships every single time.

So this year’s draft might be a little boring for Warriors fans. Where the attention will be paid is just who the team brings in on the new two-way contract system and the players they invite to the Las Vegas Summer League. Perhaps some gems can be found there to boost their team in Santa Cruz.
