The Warriors drafted him

The Golden State Warriors are the premier organization in basketball and, possibly, all of sports. From top to bottom, the franchise is the standard. The Warriors are top-notch at pretty much every level.

They have a championship culture in place. It seems like Golden State can’t make a wrong move. From Joe Lacob all the way down to the last guy on the bench, the Warriors are just really good. Each member of the organization is really high-character and makes all the right decisions.

It hasn’t always been like this. Being a Warriors fan wasn’t always easy because the organization rarely made the right call. The previous ownership couldn’t get out of its own way.

The Warriors had the fifth pick in the 1998 NBA Draft. The Toronto Raptors were fourth. Golden State picked Carter out of the University of North Carolina and the Raptors picked his Tar Heel teammate Antawn Jamison.

The two teams decided to make a Draft Day trade. Carter wasn’t a Warrior for very long, but he did put the hat on. He went on to lead his team to the playoffs just a few years later.

Meanwhile, Jamison became a solid player. He never came close to becoming the icon that Carter is. The Warriors should try to finish what the kind of started.

It would be pretty cool if Carter could actually suit up for the team that drafted him. It would be something that was twenty years in the making. And while the Warriors wouldn’t be getting prime Carter, they’d be getting a productive player.

And they have much nicer jerseys now for him to wear.
