The Golden State Warriors are up for the best team award at The ESPYS. They should be the easy choice to win the award.
No team in the NBA has seized the spotlight and all of the conversation quite like the Golden State Warriors have over the last few years. With two championship seasons and a 73-win season, the Warriors have been a cut above the rest of their league.

Therefore, it’s only fitting that they are up for yet another esteemed honor. The ESPYS will be taking place this week, and it’s the one night of the year where every league is up against the other for awards in sports. The Warriors are up for multiple awards, but there is none bigger than the best team award.
The Warriors are up against the New England Patriots, U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team, Chicago Cubs, Clemson Tigers, Pittsburgh Penguins and the South Carolina Gamecocks Women’s Basketball team.
All of those are worthy of winning the best team award, but the Warriors are above all of them. The very fact that Golden State went 16-1 in the playoffs while running through everyone with relative ease is something that can’t be ignored.

Now, they did catch some breaks along the way but so does every team that pulls off a championship. The New England Patriots had one of the greatest comebacks of all time, if not the greatest comeback ever. Still, it begs the question if that makes them the best team for putting themselves in a 28-3 hole in the Super Bowl.
The Cubs came back from a 3-1 deficit against the Cleveland Indians and created perhaps the most memorable World Series in MLB history. Still, does being down big in a series quantify them as the best? It’s a debate that certainly can continue to be had.
Clemson overcame Alabama and had a strong showing winning on the final second of the game. They along with South Carolina Women’s Basketball have a strong argument to make by virtue of beating juggernauts along the way to their title.

The Penguins won a bizarre Stanley Cup Final that saw some strange officiating. It’s hard to say if there championship team this year was better than the one that won last season. Lastly, the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team could perhaps be the strongest competitor to the Warriors’ shot at winning this award. The way they tore through the competition was one of the best performances in the history of the program.
It should serve as a reminder that this is a fan vote and ultimately the fans will decide who wins this award. That of course means that no matter who wins, the debate will rage on afterward and that is what makes sports so great.
