The Golden State Warriors were recognized as the best team at the 25th ESPYS on Wednesday night.

More from Blue Man Hoop

The Golden State Warriors had yet another season for the ages this year. They won a ton of games and brought home another NBA Championship to the bay. With a 16-1 record, the Warriors had the best postseason record of any team in league history. On Wednesday night, they were honored for it.

Up for the best team award at the 25th ESPYS, the Warriors were able to hold off a strong field of competitors to win the vote. With Olympians, the New England Patriots, a Penguins dynasty, the Chicago Cubs reversing history and many other teams up for the award, it was a strong group of candidates.

In the end, the Warriors’ postseason run is probably what pushed them to this award. To start the playoffs with 15 straight wins is something that might not be duplicated for a long time. Although they did drop one, it took a record night from the Cleveland Cavaliers to avoid a sweep.

Golden State keeps racking up the hardware and adding to their legacy with this current group. Although it’s a fan vote, this is certainly a big spotlight for the franchise and they’ll continue to own it in all likelihood for many more years.

Each of the teams up for the award had strong arguments to make, but this Warriors team made a statement to the rest of the NBA that they were on a level above. If any further proof is needed, just look at the madness that was NBA free agency and the trades made as a result. Each of the other teams were some of the best ever, but it’s hard to say they made the rest of their league flip upside down. That’s the power of Golden State at the moment.
