The Golden State Warriors are featured in the early gameplay footage of NBA Live 18 and Klay Thompson has some cringe-worthy animations.

The sports video game world is dominated by just a few games. In football, Madden has erased the competition completely. In soccer, FIFA is at the top, making Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer nearly obsolete. The same is happening in basketball.

2K reigns supreme in the hoops world. It’s a global phenomenon. From the ratings to the features, it is everything.

At times, it seems like it’s the only basketball game out there, but it’s not. EA Sports’ NBA Live has released a new addition to the series nearly every year since 1995. Despite the series’ longevity, it isn’t nearly as successful as the 2K series.

NBA Live is trying to find ways to keep up with the competition. In a cool move, the game is adding playable WNBA teams, much like FIFA did with women’s international squads. That feature is a good one, but gameplay footage of one of their misses has hit the internet.

Check out these gameplay animations from Klay Thompson in the upcoming NBA Live 18.

Here’s another one:

These don’t look to be Thompson-specific moves, but this is what we have right now. They are amazing and cringe-worthy and hilarious all at the same time. NBA Live should probably have kept this one from the public.

I appreciate the fact that they’re trying to do something to make fans smile. They want to make the game more enjoyable. But this doesn’t seem like the way to do it.

At best, it’ll amuse people for a little bit. At worst, it’s too cringe-worthy to handle and doesn’t address the reasons why the game has fallen behind NBA 2K. It’s so bad that it’s funny.

I will admit that I’m not going to buy this game. I will, likely, be buying the Miami Heat Shaquille O’Neal cover of NBA 2K18. It’s too soon to determine that, though, because I could buy the New York Knicks Kyrie Irving cover instead.
