The rematch of this past year’s Western Conference Finals between the Warriors and Spurs will be the first litmus test for the defending champs.

More from Warriors News

Unlike the Western Conference Finals, the game will feature a fully healthy Spurs roster including superstar Kawhi Leonard and multiple-time champion Tony Parker. They will be looking to take out their anger on the Warriors after losing their superstar in Game 1 on a malice-intent questionable play of Warriors center Zaza Pachulia landing on Leonard’s ankle, which he had just re-injured it on a previous play. Leonard would go on to sit on the bench in street clothes the rest of the series, while the Warriors swept them.

A healthy, revenge-seeking team like the Spurs playing at home will give the Warriors enough motivation to bring their A-game in the teams’ first meeting of the season. A win for the Warriors would give them confidence against one of the best franchises in league history going further into the season. A win for the Spurs would give them confidence that they can compete with the Warriors and say that they should have won the Western Conference Finals this past year.

This first meeting against the Spurs would give the Warriors a good test to see how they respond on the road against an elite team early on in the season and how their play could help them in upcoming matchups against the Spurs. It would give the Warriors a taste of how they would be able to slow down one of the best players in the league in Kawhi Leonard.

Nonetheless, the first meeting between these two Western Conference powerhouses will help give the Warriors on how they would be able to improve with each game against them.
