Stephen Curry could be in for a big year this season. Which award would Golden State Warriors rather see him win: a third MVP or first Finals MVP?

Stephen Curry has done nearly everything you can do as a professional basketball player. He overcame injuries and unhealthy team culture. He became an all-time great.

Curry is the greatest shooter of all-time. He’s revolutionized the game of basketball with his shooting stroke. Though the game has tried to adjust to him, he still breaks defenses apart unlike any other player ever by stretching them out all the way to half court.

The superstar point guard is two-time MVP, with the second of those selections coming from a first-ever unanimous vote. He is also a two-time champion. He’s never earned a single Finals MVP vote.

Curry is quickly climbing up the all-time rankings as he breaks more records and collects more rings, but that begs the question: which award would Warriors fans rather see him win next? Assuming that the Warriors win the 2018 NBA Championship, would DubNation rather see him win a third MVP award or his first Finals MVP?

Luckily, there’s a poll for that.  We tweeted it from @BlueManHoop. You can go there and look at our pinned tweet or vote below.

Winning a third Most Valuable Player would put him alongside Moses Malone, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird. It would be hard to keep him out a top-20 list if he paired a third MVP with a third championship. He would establish himself as one of the most dominant players for one of the greatest dynasties of all-time.

Curry has two MVP awards though; he doesn’t have a Finals MVP, let alone a single vote for the award. In 2015, Andre Iguodala won the award due to his defensive efforts, splitting the vote with LeBron James. In 2017, Kevin Durant won it easily.

The biggest knock against Curry is that he “doesn’t show up” in the NBA Finals. While that has been false in two of the three championship series he’s played in, he did struggle in the 2016 loss. He was dealing with a knee injury, something that became more and more bothersome as the series went on.

Curry deserved the award in 2015 over Iguodala–he was the best Warrior on the floor. Though one can argue that Curry might have been the most important player over the course of the series in 2017, Durant’s clutch Game 3 shot and ridiculous stat lines made it hard for voters to choose someone else. Curry was great, Durant just might have been greater.

So which one would you rather see Curry win this year? Ideally, it’d be both, but, for the sake of this poll, choose one. Make sure you follow Blue Man Hoop on Twitter, too.
