OAKLAND, CA – SEPTEMBER 30: Nick Young /

The Golden State Warriors have two potential backup shooting guards. Here are three reasons why Nick Young should get the spot over Patrick McCaw.

The Golden State Warriors are off to a slow start and look to be heading in the right direction. They have won four of the last five including a drubbing of the Dallas Mavericks, 133-103, in their best game of the season. Everyone contributed to the victory with Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, leading the way, combining for 54 points.

One noticeable action throughout the game was the play of both Nick Young and Patrick McCaw. Both played heavy minutes in the fourth quarter but only Young was a major contributor. Young scored 10 points in the quarter, hitting three treys, including a four-point play. Young was searching for his shot, being aggressive on every possession.

McCaw took the opposite approach by not looking his shot and being passive on offense. The result was he went 0 for 1 from the field and grabbed one rebound. The one advantage McCaw may have on Young is his attention to detail on defense. But this advantage may only be temporary as Young is new to the Warriors’ defensive culture and will master it as the season goes along.

On the three-game homestand, neither player made much of an impact, meaning Coach Steve Kerr still does not know who will be his backup shooting guard going forward. This upcoming three-game road trip may decide which player takes the backup role. With all that being said, here are three reasons why Young should be the backup shooting guard over McCaw.
