Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors has officially been ruled out ahead of Monday’s game against the Orlando Magic at Oracle Arena.
Two-way contract player Quinn Cook will be available to help fill in for Curry. Also: Damian Jones recalled from Santa Cruz Warriors.
The Golden State Warriors will close out their most recent 4-game homestand at Oracle Arena against the visiting Orlando Magic, and things are shaping up to be rather interesting with Stephen Curry being held out of the contest.
That’s right — the 29-year-old point man will be sitting on the sidelines due to a right thigh contusion he suffered in last Saturday’s 135-114 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.
To recap what happened: Curry, attempting to come around a screen set by Rookie of the Year favorite, Ben Simmons, collided with Simmons’ knee, causing Curry visible discomfort in his right thigh. Curry had to limp back to the bench, allowing the team’s head of physical performance and sports medicine, Chelsea Lane, to work on getting him back in the game.
While it’s certainly true that Curry finished the night with 22 points, four rebounds and nine assists in 30 minutes, it’s just way too early in the season for any player to attempt playing through injury.
To help fill in for Curry, Warriors two-way contract player Quinn Cook has been made available to play at point guard in Monday’s game against the Magic. Cook has expectedly been a dominant force playing with Golden State’s G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors, the past couple weeks.

Keys to the Game
The Orlando Magic have surprised everyone with their strong start to the season, climbing to the third seed in the Eastern Conference with a regular season record of 8-5.
A huge part of their success has been their offensive efficiency: Orlando currently ranks fifth in field goal percentage (47.7 percent) and second in 3-point percentage (40.6 percent). In addition, they move the ball incredibly well, averaging 25.2 assists per game (third in the NBA).
Therefore, the key to the game lies in disrupting Orlando’s offense. Though Stephen Curry‘s offensive prowess will certainly be missed, this game will entirely depend on how well the Warriors can lock down defensively.
If the Dubs can put the clamps down early, the Magic will have a difficult time finding their rhythm to get back into the game.
