Per Marc Stein of the New York Times, the Golden State Warriors will be looking to add depth in the buyout market, and Vince Carter could be a possibility.

According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, Vince Carter could possibly join the Golden State Warriors if he reaches a buyout agreement with the Sacramento Kings, finally allowing him to join the team that originally drafted him with the 5th pick in the 1998 NBA Draft.

You read that right: the same guy that rocked The Coliseum at the turn of the century in the 2000 NBA All-Star Slam Dunk Contest could possibly be a target for the reigning NBA champions.

Though he may not possess the same level of athleticism that he displayed 18 years ago in front of the entire city of Oakland, CA, there’s no doubt that even at the age of 41, he could still add invaluable depth in the backcourt.

In his latest newsletter for the NYT, Stein was asked by one of his readers whether there was “anything on the trade horizon” for the Golden State Warriors.

Answering the individual named “Renato,” Stein stated that he doesn’t see the Warriors making a trade, adding that the Warriors are said to be waiting for the buyout market to start up after the trade deadline.

To make things even more intriguing, Stein named a possible target in Vince Carter, who’s widely considered to be a viable buyout candidate.

"It’s still too soon to say exactly what sort of talent will be available on the 2018 buyout market, but interesting names are bound to pop up. One example: Imagine if Vince Carter suddenly parts ways with Sacramento and becomes a free agent after the trade deadline. He wouldn’t make the Warriors any younger, but you’d have to think they’d at least explore the possibility of trying to sign him. The Warriors are bound to be a contender for any top player who secures a buyout … if they want to be.” – Marc Stein, NYT"

While Carter is definitely WAY past his prime, the Warriors are in desperate need of an inexpensive scoring option to add depth in the backcourt, and Carter fits the bill.

Having played in 30 games this season, Carter has averaged 5.1 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 16.6 minutes per game. He’s also shooting 40.3 percent from the field and 39.0 percent from behind the arc.

Last season, he appeared in 73 games with the Memphis Grizzlies, averaging 8.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists on shooting splits of 39.4 FG/37.8 3P/76.5 FT.

The NBA buyout market will heat up following the Feb. 8 trade deadline.
