Sure, a lot of dominoes would have to fall in place for anything to happen. The biggest of these being that Leonard and Thompson would both have to hit the market and management on both sides would actually have to think about how a swap of the silent but deadly stars would benefit their teams. And, in case you didn’t know, at the time of this article, there are no signs of that transpiring (yet).
I mean, yeah, it wouldn’t be surprising if Leonard and the Spurs make up and he signs that mega-deal that would keep him in Texas. It also wouldn’t be shocking if the Warriors shake off the injury bug, re-up their ‘Big 4’ for at least a little longer and continue their stretch of dominance. But, speculation is part of the fun of being a sports fan and the aftermath of this Leonard-Spurs fiasco should have everyone, including Dub Nation, on the edge of their seats.
Now, the reasons for this excitement may range from “that’s a dumb trade, no thank you” to “hmmm you may be onto something, Jay”. Whatever the case may be, it’s hard not to at least consider the possibilities and people like my guys from First Take will make sure we don’t ignore them, Warriors fans. Take it away, Stephen A. Smith!
