Warriors: Patrick McCaw Can’t Sleep Due to Back Pain
By Andrew Ites
Warriors forward Patrick McCaw is still suffering from the side effects of a scary back injury that has given him an incredible amount of pain.
The entire Warriors team was shaken once Patrick McCaw’s lower back slammed to the floor after being undercut by Vince Carter in a March 31st game against the Kings.
McCaw was forced to lay on the ground for a while before he was stretchered off the floor that night.
Fortunately, all of the tests came back negative (which is a good thing in the medical profession) and he was diagnosed with a bone bruise in his back.
McCaw has opened up about the injury saying that he’s still haunted from that terrifying fall. McCaw has also said that he is simply glad he can still walk after temporarily losing sensation in his lower body following the collision with the ground.

The Mercury News’ Melissa Rohlin wrote that McCaw is still unable to sleep at night due to the pain of the bone bruise in his back.
While the bone bruise will eventually heal and his body should return to full health, getting over the mental aspect of the injury may be the most difficult part of the recovery for McCaw.
His style of play on both ends of the floor requires him to sacrifice his body to make hustle plays that help the team. If he’s reminded of this fall every time he goes to the hoop, that could be a major issue for his game.
Luckily, professional sports teams often employ team psychologists for this sort of situation, and McCaw is sure to get the very best care from the Warriors’ staff for his physical body as well as his mental and emotional health.
McCaw’s potential return for a Warriors’ playoff run is not the most important thing in his life right now, but the team could really use some added depth on the wing in defense of their championship.
Regardless of whether he’s able to come back this season, let’s hope McCaw takes his time in recovery and can continue his promising career without any setbacks.
