Warriors: Patrick McCaw Making Progress in Recovery from Back Injury
By Andrew Ites
Warriors forward Patrick McCaw has taken another step forward in his recovery from a scary back injury.
Patrick McCaw took a hard fall in the Warriors’ win over the Kings on March 31st after being undercut by Vince Carter on a layup attempt.
McCaw was initially diagnosed with a “lumbosacral bone bruise,” which is incredibly painful, but he avoided any long-term damage with that diagnosis.
The second-year Warrior said the pain in his back was keeping him up at night, but he is progressing through rehab.
The Warriors PR Twitter account announced that McCaw was re-evaluated by the team’s medical staff on Thursday. The team doctors found that the promising young forward was “making steady functional progress” and “has been cleared to begin modified on-court shooting and running drills.”

The PR release ended by saying McCaw will be re-evaluated again in four weeks, which means he has likely be ruled out for the rest of Golden State’s playoff run.
When the initial diagnosis was less severe than the team feared, there was some hope that he could potentially make a return sometime in the second round of the playoffs. After further evaluation, it looks like the Warriors’ medical staff doesn’t want to rush his recovery which is the right move in this situation.
Golden State would love to have another solid defensive wing to put on the floor in the postseason, but their main concern is McCaw’s long-term health and well-being.
With a full offseason to recover, let’s hope Patrick McCaw is ready to begin a breakout season next October.
