The Golden State Warriors concluded the inaugural California Classic Summer League with a victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, starting the offseason undefeated.

The reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors will have some tough decisions to make this offseason after watching their 2018 Summer League squad dominate the first-ever California Classic Summer League in Sacramento.

The Classic ran from Monday, July 2 to Thursday, July 5, with the Golden State played three contests: the first against the Miami Heat, the second against the Sacramento Kings and and the third against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Dubs defeated the Heat 79-68 to start their time at the Golden 1 Center, following that up with a 71-54 win over the hometown Kings. They concluded the California Classic with a well deserved victory over the Lakers, finishing their 3-day outing in the state’s capital with an undefeated 3-0 record.

The team will now head to Las Vegas to compete in the MGM Resorts Las Vegas Summer League. Starting Friday, they’ll play three preliminary contests before kicking off the Vegas Summer League tournament.

Onward to Vegas!

With Golden State “veterans” Jordan Bell and Damian Jones resting, the rest of the Warriors’ Summer League roster got an extended opportunity to get some much-needed run before taking off for Sin City.

Marcus Derrickson was excellent filling in for Jones, recording a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds on 8-of-19 shooting from the field (42.1 percent), 4-of-7 shooting from behind the arc (57.1 percent) and 4-of-4 shooting from the free throw line.

He finished a +11, adding in four steals and one block in 25 minutes.

Omari Johnson had his best game of the summer thus far, dropping in 15 points, four rebounds and two steals in 18 minutes. He shot 6-of-10 from the field (60.0 percent), 1-of-5 from long range (20.0 percent) and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.

Gian Clavell posted 10 points and one steal, shooting 4-of-7 from the field (57.1 percent) and 2-of-5 from three-point range (40.0 percent) in 16 minutes.

Kendrick Nunn did not take to the hardwood on Thursday despite being dressed. Nunn has been among the team’s leaders in minutes played thus far and will reportedly be ready to go come time for Friday night’s game in Vegas against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Jacob Evans only played six minutes in the first half. According to head coach Willie Green, the rookie got a little “banged up,” mentioning an issue with Evans’ ribs. The team will continue to monitor the situation heading into Vegas.
