Draymond Green will become the second Warriors player to miss USA Basketball’s minicamp this week in Las Vegas.

The Warriors will be well represented at Team USA’s minicamp, which begun on Wednesday, but Draymond Green will not be among the group in Las Vegas according to a report from ESPN’s Marc Spears.

Draymond will join Steph Curry as the two Golden State players that will not be in attendance while Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and DeMarcus Cousins will participate in some form or fashion this week.

Draymond was a member of the 2016 gold medal team at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

According to USA Basketball’s website, Green played in all eight games in Brazil scoring 1.9 points per game with 2.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 9.9 minutes per game as Team USA went 8-0.

There hasn’t been any reporting on why Draymond will not attend this year’s minicamp, so let’s brainstorm a couple of ideas why he will not be in Las Vegas this week.

Green was battling a shoulder injury for the majority of last season, and that particularly affected his shooting as he shot just 30.1% from three. Draymond may be taking this summer off to allow that shoulder to fully recover before the Warriors begin their quest for a three-peat in October.

He may also feel that his role will not be very large on Team USA moving forward, and he could be content ending his international career on a high note with that 2016 gold medal.

A combination of these two possible factors may have led him to his decision to miss this year’s minicamp.

Draymond and Steph will still both be eligible for the 2020 Olympic roster if they choose to participate.

Hopefully this time off will allow Green’s shoulder to heal, and he can come into next year fully healthy and energized to lead the Warriors to their fourth title in five years.
