Steph Curry will try his hand at professional golf again in August
By Andrew Ites
Steph Curry will participate in the third professional golf event of his athletic career coming up in August.
Last year, Steph Curry entered the Web.com Tour’s Ellie Mae Classic, which is a tournament held at the TPC Stonebrae Country Club in Hayward, California.
As an amateur Curry hit a 74 in each of the first two rounds, which was a perfectly respectable score, but not good enough to make the cut for the weekend.
Three-time major champion Jordan Spieth was impressed by Steph’s performance at last year’s event, and Jason Day spoke about Curry’s feat as well.
“To be honest, I think it’s pretty special for a two-time MVP to be able to shoot 74 at a pro event and beat other pros,” said Day.

The tournament director said Curry’s involvement in the tournament was a “tremendous success,” which has encouraged them to invite him back to this year’s edition of the Ellie Mae Classic in August.
The Web.com tour is a step below the PGA tour. For basketball fans that aren’t familiar with the pro golf circuit, the Web.com tour is essentially the PGA’s equivalent to the G League.
It’s perfectly reasonable to think Steph could have a professional golf career after he decides to hang up the basketball shoes for good.
Golf has been a lifelong passion for Curry. In addition to playing in pro-am golf tournaments, Steph has also played a round with former president Barack Obama.
He also regularly participates in the American Century Classic, which is a celebrity golf tournament held in South Lake Tahoe where he placed 11th out of 92 golfers. And he’s participated in the Safeway Open, which is another pro-am tournament.
Curry’s love for golf has become infectious as Andre Iguodala has learned to love the game as well.
We’ll see if Steph has improved enough since his last time at this tournament to make the cut for the weekend when the Ellie Mae Classic begins on August 9th.
