Warriors: Steph Curry Is Still The Best Player In NBA

NEW YORK, NY - FEBRUARY 26: Stephen Curry

Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry is still the best player in the league even though it’s been two years since his last MVP campaign.

Back in 2015 when Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors won their first championship since 1975, it took the league by surprise.

Steph’s limitless range was unguardable, and he took his first season MVP home that season.

The next year, the Warriors surprised the league even more with a 73-win season. Curry, along with his team, was on top of the world.

Until they lost in the NBA Finals.

Steph Curry, however, lost more than his team did.

The Warriors were still the favorite to win the title the next season, but the argument of Curry being the best player in the league was silenced.

Why?

It was mostly because of two factors: his size and his defense.

Curry is listed as 6-foot 3-inches and 190 pounds. That is 5 inches shorter and 60 pounds lighter than Lebron James, who is still the consensus best player in the league. Compared to Steph’s teammate Kevin Durant, the size difference is even more significant.

NBA pundits have also described the Warriors’ tendency to “hide” him on defense. Opponents often put Curry in the post against a bigger player on a switch to take advantage of a size mismatch.

So why is Steph Curry still in the argument for the best player in the world?

There are many rumors  out there to who would join Lebron James in Los Angeles next season. Kawhi Leonard’s has often been mentioned in this discussion as he had already expressed his desire to move to L.A.

Another name that has been linked to LeBron in Laker Land is none other than Kevin Durant. While many are fascinated about the tandem of arguably the world’s best and second-best players, the real-life possibility of Durant moving to SoCal is questionable.

The discussion, however, is interesting.

If Kevin Durant did decide to move to Southern California, it would obviously create another talented team in the Western Conferenct featuring LeBron, KD, Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, and Josh Hart.

So who would be the better team in that scenario: the KD and LeBron Lakers or the Curry-led Warriors (assuming Klay Thompson stays in Golden State)? I believe the Warriors would still be the championship favorite.

This is an interesting argument considering most people think that Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are not on the same level as talents like LeBron and Durant.

So this is not about the talent. It is all about the system.

Steph Curry’s gravity behind the three-point line opens up the Warriors’ entire offense. Neither LeBron or KD can have that same exact effect on an opposing defense because they can’t shoot the three-ball like Steph.

Golden State’s system won titles before Kevin Durant ever arrived, and KD has even admitted that Steph Curry is the Warriors’ system.

When the Warriors played without Steph, their offense dipped by about 13 points per game last season. They are clearly completely a different team when he is on the floor.

Lebron James is probably the most overall talented player of all-time, and Kevin Durant might be the most talented scorer in the league history.

But Steph Curry wins you games like nobody else has in the history of the game. Even those who say that Kevin Durant is the best player on the Warriors still claim that Curry is the most important player of this team.

The brain is the most important organ in the human body. Without it, out hear, lungs, and other organs do not operate. That is why when out brain stops working, the entire body goes with it.

Steph Curry is the brain of the Warriors team. Without him, the other parts of this team do not operate correctly.

So if Steph is the most important player on the best team in the league, he should remain at the top of the league’s best players.
