Stephen Curry gives honest opinion of DeMarcus ‘Boogie’ Cousins addition
Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors gained another elite asset following their second straight championship.
Their acquisition of DeMarcus Cousins highlighted another outstanding offseason. However, since his announcement, we haven’t heard much from the Golden State Warriors core four. Well, Stephen Curry broke that silence as he spoke with KNBR about their signing of superstar DeMarcus Cousins, transcribed by NBC Sports.
"“In the right situation, he definitely can shine,” Curry said Thursday on KNBR. “His presence in the locker room is going to be solid for sure. You appreciate a guy like that who has an extreme passion for the game. He wears his emotions on his sleeve, and that’s great."
I’ve never heard Cousins’ locker room presence described as “solid.” But, it could be true. They’ll have to wait till things get going, till not everything is so pretty on the outside. Clearly, the starting five, all elite-level talents, will figure it out any issues, but issues will arise.
With Cousins in the locker room, it’ll be intriguing to see how the team handles slumps throughout the season. Curry is full of anticipation to see Cousins on the floor and has high expectations for the Dubs this season.
"“I think in the right situation that he’s in right now with us will ultimately bring the best out of him and bring even greater things out of us. I’m excited about it.”"
Prior to his season-ending Achilles’ injury, Cousins was having a historically great season. 25.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 blocks, 1.6 steals and 1.1 threes per game had never been done by a player in a season, and albeit his season was cut short, Cousins was not appearing to be slowing down before the rebound that cost him the season.
That season will still go down in history, and Cousins may still be that player. Although many think the old Cousins will not come back in full force, top-notch recovery and rehabbing have done far greater things.
A force to be reckoned with, Cousins is joining a team that’s coming off an NBA Championship. He’s teaming up with good friend Kevin Durant, who joined the Warriors following their 73-win season. This team just keeps gaining talent, making them virtually unstoppable.
Before claiming the thrown in 2019, we need to see the five in action and actually putting their on-court skills together. Will it be what we all hope it will? Curry thinks they’ll live up to the hype and so do I.
