Rumor: Kevin Durant to join the Los Angeles Lakers next summer?
By Simon Hannig
Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant will be a free agent next summer, does he have his eyes set on the LA Lakers and teaming up with LeBron James?
Kevin Durant will be, once again, a free agent next summer. He signed a two-year deal that included a player option, which he most likely will opt out of. Could the Golden State Warriors two-time championship take his talents down south?
Yes, Durant has won two championships since joining the team in the summer of 2016. However, this season will most likely be full of rumors on where Durant could possibly go next summer.
Brandon Robinson went onto explain further what he has heard.
Next summer is loaded with superstar free agents. One of the most talented free agent cores we have seen since 2010. Kyrie Irving, Jimmy Butler, Klay Thompson and many others will be free agents. It could be a league-altering offseason.
I think a lot of it will determine if the Warriors win the title next June. If they do, Durant is staying. If they don’t, that leaves the door open of him leaving and trying to make another super team.
Imagine leaving on the cusp of a four-peat. There seems like little for Durant to accomplish in the Bay if he doesn’t win this season. He’s already helped bring them two titles. Isn’t time to restore parity in the league?
We shall see what happens next summer with Durant and his free agency decision. Does he decide to stay with the Warriors for another year, or does he look for new adventures with another team?
During his time in Golden State, Durant has transformed into an all-around superstar. Averaging well over seven rebounds and five assists per game, he’s become a fantastic distributor and scorer. He’s hit career highs in blocks, rebounds and field goal percentage during his two years.
We will be keeping all the updates on this situation as it gains momentum throughout the season.
