Lack of Need

The Golden State Warriors typically only keep players they need or they can see develop into a player they’ll need. That’s basically the motto of every NBA team.

Well, Boogie really doesn’t fit either of those molds. While he does enhance the team, he’s just a nice addition, not a critical piece. Steph, Klay, Draymond and KD are the pivotal players on the Warriors, and it’ll stay that way for the distant future.

The Dubs have won 50+ games for five straight seasons and have a three-year stretch of over 60+ wins sandwiched between those five years.

Adding superstar Kevin Durant to a 73-win team seemed unfair enough. Now, they add DeMarcus Cousins to a 58-win team that seemed to hardly try during the regular season. The Dubs arguably have a top-five player at every position.

While they’ll easily be the title favorite with Cousins, they’d be the favorites without him too. They easily swept the Cavs in the NBA Finals with a healthy roster which is returning many of its volume contributors.

Adding another superstar is the icing to the cake, but certainly not the ingredients in the cake. Boogie’s a nice addition, but not a necessary one, so if they opted to trade the big coming off a season where he averaged 25.2 points per game, they actually wouldn’t lose too much, especially considering their death lineup still won’t feature Cousins.

Cousins is a phenomenal player, but the Golden State Warriors can think long-term and trade him assuming he can return at a reasonable time.
