The Golden State Warriors most recent superstar addition, DeMarcus Cousins, isn’t counting out the Lakers this season. He thinks the Lakers ‘got a chance.’

According to Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson’s interview with Golden State Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins, the elite 6-foot-11 big man thinks the Lakers could overthrow the Dubs behind offseason superstar signing LeBron James.

"They got the best player in the world,” says DeMarcus Cousins of LeBron James. Here’s the million Dollar Question: Can the Laker beat the Warriors? Boogie says the James factor gives em a shot.“They’ve got a chance,” Cousins told me. “We’ll see what happens when the ball goes up.”"

While Cousins might not truly believe the Lakers could pull the upset off, he has clearly quite a high respect for LeBron. Entering his 16th season, James, the former Cleveland Cavalier, is now captaining the ship in LA.

However, not too many analysts believe the Lakers are true title contenders without a second superstar. Behind James, there is a montage of young, up-and-coming stars like Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball. Of the three, none are quite ready for the main spotlight yet though.

We have seen James turn those type of players into legit stars over the last few seasons. That said, the Lakers might be better than many expect, but they’ll certainly still be a few light years behind Golden State.

The other reason Boogie might utter such blasphemy is because it might alleviate pressure from the Dubs. The Warriors are the clear favorite to win their third straight championship. Well, news flash: not everything goes as planned.

Boogie understands that there is at least ‘a chance’ that the Dubs don’t win the Finals, so out of pure technicality, he’s not wrong.

Cousins did back up his claim with a good point, a highly underrated point. “It’s a team full of high IQs,” Cousins told Scoop B. Outside of a few gritty, one-dimensional players, the Lakers are made up of high IQ players that will limit their offensive turnovers and create a sound defense as well.

That said, the season is just a few weeks away, and we’ll get to see how these teams perform on the court.
