The Golden State Warriors have been wondering how long they will be able to retain their core unit.

One of the Golden State Warriors biggest concerns in recent years is being able to keep their squad together. With a team full of superstars, financial situations begin to become an issue. However, Draymond Green has recently told the media that he is prepared to be with the Warriors for a long time.

During Media Day, Green told a reporter “I’m confident I’ll be here a very long time”. This comment should be a relief to Warriors fans everywhere.

Green has been one of the most important pieces to Golden State’s roster since 2015. His impact as a defensive mastermind and playmaker is extremely vital to the teams’ success. In many ways, Draymond is the heart and soul of the Warriors.

That’s why it is so crucial that he stays with the Dubs. There are not many players in the league with Green’s skill set. He offers something to the team that is irreplaceable.

As the season progresses, we will see more and more questions about looming free agency decisions pop up. Big stars such as Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant could potentially leave after this season ends. Securing extensions for both of these guys is a big goal of the Warriors.

For now, the Dubs have at least some certainty of keeping Draymond. Currently, Green is on contract to stay with Oakland until the 2020 offseason anyways. He is set to make roughly 40 million dollars over the next two years.

Green is a player who is capable of signing a huge contract with another team in the future. However, it appears he is more focused on winning championships than earning money. He is willing to sacrifice his paycheck for the teams’ success.

This type of selflessness is displayed in his on the court game. Green is constantly setting up his teammates and getting them open looks. It’s no coincidence he averaged 7.3 assists per game last year.

The Warriors roster might undergo drastic changes within the next year. As of now, Draymond Green has assured some fans that they have no reason to worry.
