Before Stephen Curry, there was a sharpshooter by the name of Chris Mullin. Mullin was selected as the seventh overall pick in the 1985 NBA Draft by Golden State out of St. John’s University.

He played in an era where the 3-point shot wasn’t as valued as it is now, but in 13 seasons with the Warriors, he made the most of his career as a sharpshooter from behind the arc.

Mullin didn’t get off to a flying start from 3-point range, either. As a rookie, he shot just 18.5 percent from the 3-point line.

That number improved as his career went on, as did his knack for knocking down 3-point shots. During the 1989-90 season, he made his second All-Star appearance, while shooting 37.2 percent from behind the 3-point line.

His best shooting season came during the 1997-98 season, when he shot 44 percent from 3-point range on 107-for-243 from behind the arc. It was the lone season during his career with the Warriors that he made over 100 3-pointers. He did finish the 1994-95 season shooting 45.2 percent from 3-point range, but it was during a shortened season for him that saw Mullin play in just 25 total contests.

Mullin currently ranks fifth all-time in franchise history in 3-pointers made (590) after shooting 36.6 percent from 3-point land as a member of the Warriors. He made five consecutive All-Star appearances from 1988-93 and didn’t average less than 25 points per contest during any of those seasons. Subsequently, his No. 17 jersey was retired by Golden State back on March 20, 2012.
