DeMarcus Cousins, the former Pelicans center, is now a part of the Golden State Warriors, and he’s ready to prove the haters wrong this season.

During the Golden State Warriors media day, DeMarcus Cousins was asked what keeps him motivated. In response, he gave the most DeMarcus Cousins-like answer of all time.

The haters. He feeds off the haters. Those that say he won’t be able to return the same as before. Those that say he can’t thrive on a team like Golden State. Cousins is ready to prove those that blaspheme his name wrong.

Last season, Cousins put up numbers never before seen in the NBA. He averaged over 25 points, 12.5 rebounds, five assists, two threes, one steal and one block per game. An absolute animal, Cousins played like a true superstar.

However, one rebound changed his season and potentially his career. Tearing his Achilles cost him more than just his first successful season, it cost him the chance at a max contract his offseason, a contract he’d certainly have been entitled to.

Players like Kobe Bryant, Rudy Gay, Wesley Matthews and Chauncey Billups have all had similar injuries, and while many haven’t come back to full strength, Cousins situation is a bit different. He feeds off his size and tenacity. His drive is what got this far.

That drive along with some help from excellent physicians in the Bay area will help him rebound. While his stint in Golden State may end after just one year, he’ll, in that year, have the chance to prove those haters wrong.

Cousins’ haters often point to his inability to be on the successful team and his inability to be successful in the postseason. While those are still true to some degree, this season should be able to change all that.

Next. Warriors: Projecting the depth chart at each position. dark

Projected to return prior to the All-Star break, Cousins should come back and help assemble the best team of all time in Golden State this season.
