Stephen Curry’s health will be a major factor for Dubs
The Golden State Warriors need Stephen Curry to play this season, and his health will be a major factor in how they place among other elite West teams.
Stephen Curry and the core four played just 41 games together prior to the postseason. Mostly due to his absence, the Golden State Warriors never found a try in-season rhythm yet still pulled out the Finals due to pure skill.
Curry, who has suffered from multiple ankle injuries, missed 31 games last season, the second most of his career. Prior to last season, Curry has only missed four games in each of the last five seasons, a solid feat for any consistent starter.
The 2x MVP is imperative for the team’s success. Albeit they have three other star players and another returning midseason, the Dubs get the best shot from their opponents each and every night.
Since they usually take the pedal off the metal, the Dubs often times drop games that they could’ve won. Curry, the renown leader, brings that energy that is taken away from the team without his presence.
The Warriors were 18-13 last season without Curry. While still a positive record, it’s far from acceptable for a team with so much elite talent.
Aiming for their fifth straight Finals, the Warriors are going to run into obstacles their dynasty has yet to face this season. What might happen if three of their stars go down? Will they be able to rally behind the second unit if Steph’s ankles don’t stay strong?
They need Steph on the court in order to clinch the No. 1 seed, which should be a goal of theirs this season. Last season, although they were able to make the Finals, the Dubs were challenged in a Western Conference Finals road Game 7 in Houston.
The Dubs need to make sure they don’t have to worry about that, and that record will largely fall on how much and how frequently Stephen Curry plays. The Warriors are easily the NBA’s best team and need to play like it.
They only play up to their true potential when Curry’s on the court facilitating the offense.
His presence will be key, and I’d think they’ll easily conquer the West if he sees time in at least 70 games.
