The Golden State Warriors and free agent shooting guard Patrick McCaw have yet to agree to terms.

Restricted free agent guard Patrick McCaw plans to decline a two-year, $5 million deal (second year not guaranteed) from the Golden State Warriors, according to The Undefeated.

McCaw will also turn down the Warriors qualifying offer, meaning McCaw will be able to keep his restricted free agent status, per Shams Charania.

This is a pretty interesting turn of events between McCaw and the Warriors. It isn’t known on what McCaw is demanding from the Warriors.

The money is dried up pretty much everywhere around the league and whatever McCaw is demanding, he probably won’t be offered nearly as much as what he hopes to get.

McCaw is in a perfectly great situation with the Warriors and he won’t have much of an opportunity to compete for a championship with any other team besides Boston and Toronto.

McCaw averaged 4.0 points, 1.4 assists and 1.4 rebounds last season with the Dubs. He’s yet to prove to be a capable shooting guard either. While time is still on his side, McCaw has yet to put himself in a position to request such money from Golden State.

Due to a pretty gruesome injury sustained last season against the Kings, McCaw wasn’t a major factor until later in the season after he regained his health. That said, the Dubs haven’t seen too much improvement from the 22-year-old.

A 6-foot-7 shooter, McCaw has all the intangibles of a solid rotational player in the league. He could be a decent scoring option in the near future, but demanding too much from the league’s best team is a great way to find yourself not part of the league’s best team.

McCaw needs to know his role and take a backseat for potentially just this season until he becomes a true free agent next offseason.
