#4: Warriors Reach 73 Wins in a Season

Some records seem far out of reach.  The ’95-96 Bulls’ 72-10 mark for the best regular season record seemed to be just that–out of reach.

Until the ’16-17 Warriors came along.

Their 24-0 start was an auspicious beginning.  They finished that year 73-9, and were propelled by the first unanimous MVP in Stephen Curry, a deep bench, and a motion-based offense that fully clicked in Kerr’s second season.

The greatest team of all time is Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls of the 90’s.  Before the current Warriors’ run, that statement was mostly undisputed. Now, however, the Warriors are at least in the conversation.

And while this regular season milestone didn’t result in a championship, which dampens its historic effect, their 73 wins is a record that may not soon be broken.  At the least, it started to put the Warriors in the upper echelon of NBA greatness.

And in the conversation of who the greatest team of all time is, even though these Warriors aren’t done building their résumé, they’re already firmly in the mix with this miracle of a regular season.
