#3: Durant Makes Triumphant Return to OKC

The much-scrutinized decision of Kevin Durant leaving OKC to come out west was tough on KD.  He admitted afterwards that he questioned his decision after seeing all of the hate coming at him from fans and the media.

And when he played his first game back in Oklahoma City in a Warriors uniform, he knew the crowd would be waiting for him.

He wasn’t wrong.

T-shirts of cupcakes filled the arena, as fans tried to make fun of how “soft” KD was for going to the Warriors.  Boo’s jeered down on him during player introductions at the start of the game.  Fans continued to pour boo’s and jeers down whenever he touched the ball.

It was a chippy affair, with multiple players earning technicals, and Westbrook and Durant sharing some less-than-kind words to each other.

And yet, it was Durant and the Warriors who had the final say.  KD poured in an efficient 34 points, and the Warriors cruised to a blowout victory.  Durant’s deep three over his former teammate Westbrook sealed the deal.

After the game, some Warriors’ players even jokingly wore the white cupcake shirts that OKC fans sported, sending a message that they had their teammate’s back.

It was a rare atmosphere, as a former MVP does not often leave to go to a rival team in his prime.  OKC fans had a lot of pent-up frustration, anger, and hatred, and it spewed out relentlessly all night.

But in the end, Durant and his Warriors had the last laugh.
