The Golden State Warriors could be seeing Kevin Durant potentially leave next season. Here is why that would be amazing for the career of Stephen Curry.

Stephen Curry was on pace to create his own dynasty with the Golden State Warriors. He was terrorizing the league and improving drastically every season. His rise to stardom was astonishing and unfortunately, his run was cut short too soon.

The end of Curry’s run was unusual. It didn’t come because of a downfall in his game. There were no career-altering injuries that took place No, Curry’s reign over the game was halted by his own teammate, Kevin Durant.

From 2013-16, Curry was at the forefront of a basketball revolution. Steph was changing the game as we know it. He was becoming a global icon and his argument for best player in the world was beginning to take shape.

Then, KD made his decision to join the Golden State Warriors. Curry no longer had full control over his team. For the first time in a long time, there were debates on who the best player on the Warriors was.

Gradually, Curry’s reputation began to take a hit. As Durant shined and won Finals MVP in his first season with the team, questions about their former leader began to arise. At this point, he isn’t even regarded as the best point guard in the league by many. This is something that is incredibly disrespectful to a player like Curry.

This isn’t because his numbers have gone down. In fact, Curry hasn’t even taken that much of a hit statistically speaking. In the last two seasons, he averaged a combined 25.7 points, 6.4 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals a game.

In the 2016-17 season, Steph knocked down 324 total 3-pointers. This marked the second time in which Curry hit 300+ 3-pointers in a single season. No one else in the history of the NBA has had a season in which they hit that mark. Meanwhile, Curry did this while arguably being the second option on his team.

Statistics like that would be mindblowing achievements for any other player in the league. However, since Steph is playing under the shadow of Durant, he never earned the respect he deserved.
