Stephen Curry is primed for the most efficient season of his career
Since this has been Stephen Curry’s best offseason preparation-wise, the star guard might be primed and ready for the most efficient season of his career.
During media day, Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry said this summer had been the best of his career preparation-wise. With that, we might see his best season as far as numbers go, but it could easily be his most efficient season yet.
Curry’s most efficient season to date was during the Dubs historic 2015-2016 campaign. The star ascended his game to a new level, averaging a league-high in points per game and steals per game. However, he also managed to join the 50/40/90 club for the first time in his career.
Curry was just. .05% away from re-joining that club last season, albeit he did post a career-high in true shooting percentage. Since Durant’s arrival in the Bay, Curry’s been a tad bit more dependent on the three-point line. Meaning, his overall field goal percentage also has taken a marginal hit.
While that might not change this season, Curry’s percentages increased with his continued understanding of how to play alongside superstar Kevin Durant. After their first season together, Curry saw upticks in all his percentages.

He played just 51 games last season as well, so the 2x MVP also struggled to find a nice rhythm throughout the season with multiple ankle injuries. This season, he’ll start healthy, and if he finishes healthy while finding his rhythm along the way, he should re-join that 50/40/90 club.
Can he improve upon the percentages he shot in 2015 though?
Although Curry was the closest to hit the mark, there was not a single guard to average over 20 points per game while shooting over 50% from the field. The league’s MVP, James Harden, was over 5% away from the mark.
That just gives some uniqueness to how efficient Curry already is and how excellent his 2015-2016 MVP campaign was.
Curry’s 2015-2016 campaign was actually the last time a guard did average over 20 points per game while shooting 50%+ from the field. This season, he should hit that mark again.
With superstar addition DeMarcus Cousins planning to make a midseason return, Curry should get even better looks and easier attempts with a fifth All-Star on the court.
At the end of the day, his efficiency will be just another benefit for the already top-class Dubs high-powered offense.
