Golden State Warriors: Stephen Curry voted as league’s best point guard
The annual GM survey was just released, and it confirmed Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry is the league’s best point guard.
The NBA surveyed the league’s general managers and one such question was about who the league’s best point guard was. The resounding answer was Golden State Warriors wonderboy, Stephen Curry.
57% of the managers voted Curry as the league’s best point guard which is surprisingly down from the 62% vote shares he gained the year prior. Westbrook came in second with 17% of the vote. Kyrie Irving and Chris Paul tied for third with 10% of the vote and 2018 NBA MVP James Harden received just 7% of the vote.
Curry, the two-time MVP, is the only point guard still active to have won the NBA’s coveted award twice. Even with the addition of superstar forward Kevin Durant, Curry’s still been able to keep his numbers at an elite level.
Last season, the 30-year-old averaged 26.4 points per game, the second most of his career. While his other stats may not be similar to those of James Harden or Russell Westbrook, it’s mainly because of Curry’s usage and the amount of pure stardom on their team.
However, Curry makes it up with his three-point shooting.
Over the last three seasons, Curry’s averaged over four triples per game each season, a remarkable feat. On top of just shooting and making threes in volume, he does it efficiently as well, shooting over 40% from deep each season in the league.
Curry’s transformed the NBA. He’s made the league prioritize shooting from deep. He’s a once-in-a-generation talent and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. That’s one reason why the GMs favored Curry.
As Curry’s become more comfortable playing with Kevin Durant, his numbers have marginally increased. This season, he should see another uptick in production and hopefully rejoin the 50/40/90, an exclusive club he joined with his 2015-2016 MVP campaign.
The league’s best point on the league’s best team, Curry could be set to win his third MVP this upcoming season as well; however, that’s more of a dream than a reality since his usage is extremely lower than superstars such as LeBron James.
