Cousins will be a mentor for the Dubs
But by Cousins’ taking on the mentor role shows that it is his latest move to shatter the reputation that has followed him around the league.
As Cousins has stated before in regards to his free agency decision, he believes his perceived reputation (in addition to his injury) was a key factor in his relatively dry pool of suitors this past summer. Cousins has been a cancer to team’s locker rooms, and he’s ready to change that stereotype.
Not only did Cousins join the Warriors with the goal of winning, but he also chose this organization because of the culture that has been generated, the fact that egos are left at the door once you join Golden State, and instead those egos are replaced with the goal of helping others succeed as well.
DeMarcus Cousins is looking to check his prior reputation at the door, and in its place is the role of mentoring these young, promising centers on the roster. That’ll be the first in Cousins becoming the mentor he should hope to be.
