Training camp signee Alfonzo McKinnie may’ve locked up the Golden State Warriors second two-way contract with his performance against the Suns.

The 26-year-old Alfonzo McKinnie played a solid game against the Phoneix Suns in the Golden State Warriors third preseason matchup. He could’ve also easily played himself into the Dubs second two-way contract.

In 22 minutes, McKinnie scored 11 points for the Warriors in a game which they ultimately lost by eight. He also secured six rebounds, second highest on the team, and one assist to round out a solid stat line.

At 6-foot-8, McKinnie presents good size and an ability to play either the three or four, something the Dubs would appreciate having on their bench. The Dubs already have a combo guard in Damion Lee potentially coming off the bench so might as well get another versatile athlete.

McKinnie even earned a training camp invite because of his impressive summer league. He spent the summer with the Toronto Raptors. He averaged 7.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in just over 23 minutes per game.

Those figures are good enough to get a training camp invite yet not impressive enough to secure a two-way spot. That said, McKinnie had to come into camp and prove his worth immediate for the Dubs to even have a clue about what he’s capable of.

McKinnie’s professional career is pretty non-existent. He scored just 21 points in 14 appearances with the Raptors last season. His collegiate numbers are also not too impressive, meaning this could be one of his last chances to make a lasting impression on an NBA team.

While not a volume scorer or high-impact player, McKinnie does have the chance to be a contributor which is all teams typically ask of their two-way players. The only thing going against McKinnie is his age.

Most teams aim to select younger players with more upside for the two-way spot. However, at 26, McKinnie has what it takes and showcased that against Phoenix.

It’ll be interesting to see who Golden State signs with that second two-way contract.
