Golden State Warriors a near 13-point favorite in opener against Thunder
The Golden State Warriors will open the season as a double-digit favorite against another Western Conference powerhouse, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The odds for the first slate of NBA games have been released. The first two games involve a matchup between the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers to start and then continue with the Golden State Warriors against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The line for the first game is -5 BOS and for the second game is -12.5 GSW per Vegas Insider.
Is that fair? I certainly think so.
However, as for betting, it might not be the best bet. The Dubs and Thunder, who both have similar roster to last season, played four times throughout the 2017-2018 season. Although the Dubs were able to win two of the four, they would’ve only covered a 12.5 point line one of the four times.
Actually, they were blown out in two of the four matchups. That said, while opening night might be an emotional one for both teams after a crazy, rumor-filled offseason, it’ll be difficult to call whether or not the Dubs can cover such a high line.
At the same time, we are talking about the Golden State Warriors. If the Dubs are on target, they should be able to easily blow out any team in the NBA. After all, they did have the league’s most dynamic offense last season, scoring over 115 points per game.
This game will tip off the Dubs quest for a three-peat. They’re clearly the league’s best team and should be able to repeat as their biggest challenge in 2018 took a hit with Trevor Ariza leaving Houston to team up with the young guns in Phoenix.
That said, this time around it’s going to be a different challenge. It’s Boston this time with a sprinkle of Houston and Los Angeles in the mix as well. With OKC also looking to be a threat, it’ll be interesting to see them both competing at the highest level to start this season.
This will be one interesting game, and you can guarantee it’ll be one of the most bet games of the season as well.
