The Golden State Warriors locked up their 14th guaranteed contract with the signing of preseason standout Alfonzo McKinnie.

With just one preseason game left, the Golden State Warriors are looking to solidify their roster. They continued that mission with the signing of 26-year-old Alfonzo McKinnie. His signing leaves just two spots, one two-way spot and one more guaranteed roster spot.

McKinnie posted double-figure scoring in the Dubs last two preseason games, the only non-guaranteed contract to have done so. He’s deserving of this contract after going undrafted, not even earning his first NBA appearance until last season with the Raptors.

At 6-foot-8, McKinnie will slide in and get sparing minutes if the Dubs have any problems with injury this season. Outside of potential injuries, there really won’t too much playing time for McKinnie on such a deep and talented roster.

McKinnie’s signing is an intriguing move by Golden State because for the most part it solidifies their final roster.

However, we still don’t know what’s going on with Patrick McCaw. McCaw declined the Dubs two-year offer and saw his qualifying offer expire. There’s really no telling how McCaw’s contract situation will work out moving forward.

McCaw didn’t showcase enough in his first couple seasons to warrant a more long-term offer from the Warriors. He also hasn’t proven enough to be offered a deal from any other team, knowing the Dubs might not match a deal of high value.

His situation will be one to monitor over the next few weeks.

On top of McCaw, the Dubs have one two-way spot that they’ll more than likely hand out to a player they find value in developing.

The 22-year-old Marcus Derrickson is certainly a player that the Dubs could bring on with that remaining spot. He’s a young, talented forward that impressed the Dubs at the Las Vegas Summer League. His preseason, however, has been a different, more disappointing story.

The Warriors roster is almost set in stone, and as they prepare for the new season, they’ll be reminded of the challenges of a rough, 82-game regular season.

That said, these last few spots could provide crucial depth as many of the Dubs stars were down at some point with injury last season.
