Patrick McCaw has burnt the bridge. After ghosting his teammates, it’s difficult to see him returning to be part of the Golden State Warriors.

The Golden State Warriors are a world-class organization. They’ve been the league’s best team for arguably the last half a decade. However, Patrick McCaw and his inner circle aren’t buying what the Dubs are selling.

After allowing his qualifying offer to expire, McCaw declined a two-year offer from the Warriors. McCaw is forcing leverage where there isn’t any. He’s averaged just four points per game over his first two seasons in the league.

The 22-year-old hasn’t proven himself to be an imperative player on this Dubs roster. That said, his actions to not only decline the Dubs offers, but also to ghost his coaching staff and teammates seems to say it all.

McCaw must understand his role on the team is that of a second unit guard. Until further development, he shouldn’t be commanding big money and several-year deals yet. That day may come, don’t get me wrong.

McCaw has played in less than 130 games and started just 30. Mainly known as a lengthy, athletic 6-foot-7 shooting guard, McCaw’s main contribution comes when he’s scoring. He’s actually a pretty crafty scorer although not always the most efficient threat.

Up until this fiasco, there really hasn’t been a question about McCaw. He’s young and still developing into a player that can perform at a high level. Now, he’s trying to take the leap to stardom while his numbers don’t back up his request.

His unwillingness to accept either offer from Golden State is displaying his character.

However, he probably views it the same way Le’Veon Bell views his holdout. He’s protecting his value. While the situations are far different since Bell has showcased elite performance, McCaw is theoretically ghosting the organization for the same purpose.

Although Bell might return to the Steelers, McCaw might not return to the Warriors at this pace. That said, anything could happen as the future of the Dubs and McCaw seems highly unpredictable.

For now, we’ll just wait and see how it unfolds with the season opener just a few days away.
