Golden State Warriors: How worried should fans be if Kevin Durant leaves?
By Calvin Fong
Aftermath
The Warriors will still be a good team. But their championship window will have come to an end. Barring Anthony Davis joining the squad, the Warriors’ core three will ride out the rest of their seasons on the Warriors, giving the Silicon Valley crowd of Chase Center some good basketball to watch, but never again reaching the pinnacle of NBA greatness..
And when the time comes, they will retire faithfully as Warriors.
Fans will appreciate them, love them to the end. There will be that moment that we’ve all been dreading for so long–giving Steph Curry a standing ovation as he walks off the court for the last time before retirement.
He is a true Warrior. The same will be said about Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
Durant may go on to win more titles and build his legacy. Warriors’ fans will watch from afar and be fine with that. There will be no burnt jerseys or cupcake shirts. Instead, they appreciate what Durant gave them, and know they wouldn’t trade it for anything.
But without KD, other teams will swoop in and take the crown from the Dubs. Teams like LeBron’s Lakers or Kyrie’s Celtics will look to build a new dynasty in the NBA.
